Here is the ninth interview of our series #yourmobilityvision.
#yourmobilityvision is all about showing what the mobility of the future looks like by introducing companies, people behind them, researchers and institutions operating in our truly wonderful sector.
In this interview we are talking to Gerd Overbeck, Lead New Mobility Services at HACON.
What is your company’s vision and how do you embrace it in your everyday doing?
Our vision is to shape the future of mobility! We enable our partners to provide their customers with sustainable and seamlessly intermodal mobility services. As part of the Siemens Mobility family, we bring our IT expertise to numerous international projects and add to the other business areas like rail vehicles, rail automation and electrification solutions, intelligent road transport technology, turnkey systems and related services.
What is the core business of your company?
We provide the whole scope of digital mobility: from train and capacity planning to the orchestration of transport; from passenger information to booking and payment, to the management of data, vehicles and infrastructure. Our software enables efficient mobility that is both seamless and comfortable for passengers. Each day our apps and web-based solutions receive over 100 million requests from passengers who rely on our trip planners to empower their mobility choices.
What is special about your company? What are the aspects you are particularly proud of?
Hacon has been in the market for 35+ years, which makes us true pioneers in digital mobility. We have a broad understanding of the industry. This is why our trip planning software is considered to be the highest industry standard and prompted the MIT Technology Review to honor Hacon as one of the “50 Smartest Companies” worldwide.
Which topics are you currently working on?
Establishing Mobility as a Service (MaaS) – this is what Siemens Mobility, Hacon, eos.uptrade and Bytemark are working on together. With our flexible and secure MaaS platform, we integrate a wide variety of data and interfaces into one comprehensive trip planner. Public transport operators are complementing their services with demand-responsive offers that help passengers to cover, for example, the first and last mile of their trips. These DRT services constitute an important link within intermodal transport chains. Together with our Paris-based partners from Padam Mobility, we offer cutting-edge software solutions for DRT – both as a stand-alone Software as a Service or deeply integrated into our trip planners.
What is the impact you would like to have on the mobility of the future?
Facing a global climate crisis, we want to make our contribution to pushing the modal shift from the private car towards public and shared mobility options. As a digital backbone of transport, we empower our business partners to continually enhance the quality of their services. We want our digital products to provide easy and comfortable access to all sustainable modes of transportation – for the benefit of the passengers.
