Here is the thirteenth interview of our series #yourmobilityvision.
#yourmobilityvision is all about showing what the mobility of the future looks like by introducing companies, people behind them, researchers and institutions operating in our truly wonderful sector.
In this interview we are talking to Konrad Benze, Lead at ChargeHere.
What is your company’s vision and how do you embrace it in your everyday doing?
Our aim is to support and promote the transformation to electromobility. Already today, we enable companies to switch to electromobility in a simple and straightforward way. From pre-check, to installation, to servicing – we support companies on their way from the initial idea to the installation and operation of AC charging infrastructure. Since electromobility is still a new topic, there is often uncertainty among interested parties – we accompany them in the transformation process towards sustainable mobility. A partnership-based relationship with our customers is a top priority for us.
What is the core business of your company?
At ChargeHere we developed an easily scalable AC charging solution for a huge number of parking spaces. This offers customers the opportunity to consider different expansion levels beforehand, for example to expand the charging solution when the demand grows at a later stage. A solution with over 100 AC charging points in one building is no problem for us. The approach of a centralized charging solution makes it possible to equip parking lots with a charging facility for electric cars in a space-saving way. At the parking lot itself, we focus on a slim design with permanently attached, spiralized charging cables. The charging process is then started either directly at the charging point via an app or centrally via a control panel using a RFID token. Via small displays we inform users about the ongoing charging process with informative data (e.g. electrical power and consumption). We want users to experience an all-around convenient parking and charging process.
As a modular full-service provider, we support our customers not only with planning and installation, but also as a partner for the operation of the charging infrastructure. We offer various billing options for different customer and user needs. Another important component of our charging solution is our load management: We always have an eye on the available grid connection power, can avoid load peaks, and thus save customers money.
What is special about your company? What are the aspects you are particularly proud of?
Compared to other AC charging solutions, we developed the ChargeHere solution from the outset as a centralized overall charging system for a high number of parking spaces – while at the charging point itself we appear visually slim and convince with a high level of user comfort. Even as we continue to develop our charging product, we keep the customer in focus: Our customers can therefore choose which components of our modular full-service package they would like to use. We stand by them as a partner from the initial idea to the final maintenance procedure. With our own hardware and software development, we have full control over the product and can react quickly and flexibly to changes (e.g. new charging standards). Furthermore, we are one of the few companies to offer a billing service for companies that complies with the very strict German calibration law “Eichrecht”.
What is the impact you would like to have on the mobility of the future?
We don’t think small, we think big – just like the whole industry of electromobility. Regarding our charging solution, we have our sights firmly set on the ISO 15118 charging standard and the concept of smart charging. The new standard enables, for example, automated authentication and billing processes via the vehicle or the integration of charging profiles to optimize charging processes. Thinking even further, bidirectional charging, including the integration of our charging solution into smart grids, is on our planning horizon as well.
